Ronald Reagan
Reagan's first nationally televised response to the unfolding Iran-Contra story, delivered on 13 November 1986. The address denied that arms had been traded for hostages and characterised the Iran initiative as a diplomatic outreach. The denial would unravel within months and lead to the March 1987 Tower Commission address in which Reagan accepted responsibility.
